V&A Jazz Rug Black
In the 1920’s and 30’s Art Deco added an exotic, vibrant look to everything from art and design, architecture to film and fashion. Perhaps most closely identified with hotels, cocktails bars and ocean liners, Art Deco celebrated the luxurious and sensual, the fast and the new. The term Art Deco was taken from the title of an exhibition held in 1925 in Paris, L’Exposition Internationale des Arts Decoratifs et Industriels Modernes. Abstract patterns, like this one of undulating arches, were among the most contemporary designs displayed in the exhibition. Gregory Brown’s textile was awarded a gold medal by the judges. Made in India by artisan craftsmen, this rich wool and silky viscose rug is skilfully hand tufted and hand finished. The 7–9mm mixed pile and silvery sheen of the yarn cleverly accentuate the striking design. Don’t forget to buy our anti-slip mat here, available in a choice of sizes.
