V&A Rhapsody Rug Red
Owen Jones, architect and designer, was one of the most influential design theorists of the 19th century. With his wide-ranging interest in the history of decorative art and design education, he was a key figure in the development of the Victoria and Albert Museum. The V&A’s National Art Library holds volumes of Owen Jones’ decorative patterns based on the array of ornament he encountered on his global travels. Rhapsody is based on the Greek anthemion drawings illustrated in Jones’ Grammar of Ornament, which to this day remains an authority on design theory and continues to influence contemporary designers.
